Last Thursday, EMP Shield was happy to host Derek Schmidt at our facility for a productive and engaging visit. Congressman Schmidt represents Kansas’s 2nd congressional district in the U.S. House since 2025. Before that, he served as Kansas Attorney General from 2011 to 2023. It was great to welcome him back and share more about our company and the work we do here at EMP Shield.
During his time with us, Congressman Schmidt met with our team and learned about EMP Shield’s mission and growth as a technology company based in Kansas. Our discussions focused on the growing need to protect electrical systems and critical infrastructure from threats like electromagnetic pulse (EMP) events and damaging surges. While many details remain confidential, the visit allowed for meaningful conversation about preparedness and innovation.
Congressman Schmidt also met with our Vice President, Rowdy Meyer, and Chief Engineer, Jon Brooks. They discussed the company’s ongoing development and how EMP Shield’s technology can help safeguard essential systems. The conversation also looked at possible future areas where EMP protection could boost resilience across different sectors.
Jon Brooks gave a detailed explanation of our product line and the engineering behind it. He covered how the devices work, the testing process, and the wide range of systems that could benefit from EMP and surge protection. The team also talked about expanding the technology to new applications and protecting more types of equipment.
Looking forward, the group explored ideas for extending protection to new settings. This included protection for larger stationary and mobile systems that support everyday life, infrastructure, and also national defense. Innovation and forward-thinking remain central to what we do at EMP Shield.
