What is an EMP Shield Dual DC Model?

The Dual DC models put two independent EMP Shield circuits in one weatherproof box, meant for two matching solar/wind DC strings or two matching charge controllers/inverters of the same voltage. The company describes it as shunting overvoltage spikes (from EMP, solar flares/CME, or lightning) to ground very quickly. In layman’s terms, it’s 2x EMP Shields in 1x device.

EMP Shield installs onto the device that immediately follows the combiner (or PV array), such as an inverter or charge controller. To select the correct EMP Shield, locate the Maximum Input Voltage for your device and choose the first model whose voltage rating is equal to or above your device’s Maximum Input Voltage.

Examples:

  • If your device has a Maximum Input Voltage of 150V, you should select the DC-220-300V-W EMP Shield.
  • If you have two charge controllers, each with a Maximum Input Voltage of 150V, you would need a Dual-DC-220-300V-W EMP Shield.
