One of the most common misconceptions we hear is that installing an EMP Shield means your power will stay on if an EMP, or any major power surge, hits. It won’t, and it’s important you understand why before you decide what kind of protection you actually need.
So what does it actually do? EMP Shield is a Type 2 surge protector, which means it protects against any power surge entering your system, not just an EMP. That includes lightning strikes and the more “normal” surges that come through the power lines on any given day. EMP Shield monitors your electrical system and reacts when it detects a surge, diverting it away from your wiring and electronics in a matter of nanoseconds, fast enough and strong enough to handle the speed and intensity of an EMP, lightning, or a standard surge alike. That’s the entire job of the device, protect what’s plugged in, not generate what powers it.
Without that protection, a surge of any kind can permanently destroy the circuit boards inside your electronics. With EMP Shield installed, whether it’s a home, vehicle, generator, or solar system, your electronics survive that surge intact. But surviving the surge and having power are two different problems, and EMP Shield only solves the first one.
